Master Data Management (MDM) technology has grown by leaps and bounds, especially in the last decade. Many companies’ ERPs and customer data systems were built on rigid best practices that now limit their agility and ability to utilize new data sources for competitive advantage. However, with technology constantly changing, people now see the importance of new data sources like location or geospatial data in making precise decisions.

To meet the needs of the client, we configured our technology to automatically collect, assess, validate and match the data to a central model,” said Claire Milverton, the 1Spatial’s Chief Executive Officer

LMDM (Location Master Data Management), unlike traditional MDM, provides customers with the appropriate location-enabled technology to fulfil their specific spatial and non-spatial data needs. As location data from smartphones, IoT devices, and large lakes of commercial Big Data become more important in commercial decision-making, 1Spatial’s LMDM platform helps businesses be more efficient and have more confidence in their data.

1Spatial, headquartered in the United Kingdom, but with offices in the USA, Europe and Australia, is a world leader in providing location and data management technology, primarily to the Government, utilities, and transportation sectors. 1Spatial helps customers uncover the value of location data by combining innovative solutions and industry knowledge to help them make better business decisions and move toward a smarter future.
1Spatial provides breakthrough technology through their data auditing, validation and cleansing solutions, helping organisations enhance and improve the quality of their data. The technology helps organisations automatically assess and improve their data so that it can be used in different ways. For instance, validating data before it can be integrated into a new system, or aggregating data from multiple sources, systems and in disparate formats.

What sets 1Spatial apart from their competitors in the MDM landscape is their patented no code rules engine ‘1Integrate’. The engine validates, corrects, transforms and integrates spatial and non-spatial enterprise data rapidly and at scale. The no-code rules engine—delivered both onpremise and in the cloud—checks data quality against pre-defined criteria and ensures that it fulfils the set requirements such that it is ready for customer use.

Claire Milverton, the company’s Chief Executive Officer, discusses a case study to demonstrate the capabilities of 1Spatials’ solutions. The US Census Bureau required its data to be mastered in a central system for a national data integration project. Every state and county, however, manage data about their streets, their roads, their buildings etc. differently. For the Bureau to conduct analysis, data from thousands of sources and in different formats had to be consolidated into a consistent database. “To meet the needs of the client, we configured our technology to automatically collect, assess, validate and match the data to a central model,” said Claire. “Without automation rules, the process would have required manual intervention to correct it and clean it and get it back into the system.” The no-code rules engine made this challenging task possible. By automatically identifying differences between data submissions and existing records, then making approved changes automatically, the solution enabled the bureau to process more files quicker, contributing to total costs avoided of $5 billion for the 2020 census.

The organisation is constantly developing new solutions and expanding its cloud computing capabilities to keep up with the changing trends in the MDM industry. Some of the latest trends in the industry are digital twins, machine learning processes, and collaboration between spatial and non-spatial companies. Through 1Spatial’s rules engine, the spatial aspects of the data can be derived and fed into the machine learning process, giving out less biased results that add more value to the data.

“Collaborating with large-scale partners and organizations is key to our growth strategy,” adds Claire. 1Spatial aims to raise awareness about the relevance of data management and location data in addressing many of the world’s sustainability concerns. The company has a thousand customers and plans to collaborate with more spatial and non-spatial organizations in the near future.
